Litify
VP of Product and UX Operations
2022 - 2023 | Brooklyn, NY
Litify is a legal operating platform designed for law firms and corporate legal teams. Built on Salesforce and AWS, the product suite offers case management, document management, timekeeping, billing and workflow automation services. I joined Litify in 2022 to manage the product and design teams. My goal was to operationalize how they work with engineering, in order to improve on-time delivery and ensure that the products we built satisfied our customers’ needs.
The Opportunities
voice of the customer
Despite Litify’s strong Customer Success and UX teams, the voice of the customer was rarely visible in strategic product decisions. We shifted our research resources away from usability testing in favor of earlier feedback from customers. Our efforts ensured that new products satisfied the right requirements and that we invested in the most impactful enhancements to our existing product lines.
Roadmap and Delivery
I formed Litify’s Product Steering Committee and led the roadmapping process for our tech investment, including both our law practice and enterprise legal management product lines. Our new process drew on a deep understanding of both customer and business needs to balance resources, dependencies and timelines for twelve different legal products and five engineering teams.
Product Operations
Rapid growth of Litify’s product offerings, as well as the promise of four new product launches the year I joined, had exposed challenges with scalability and consistency in product management. I redefined how product and design worked together and how we communicated with engineering. The new process established checkpoints, metrics and deliverables that held everyone in the software development lifecycle accountable to shared goals and timelines.
The Work
Here are some key products we launched and improved during my time at Litify.
Matter Management
We enhanced how law firms manage matters and client relationships by creating new tools, such as a conflict checker and client portals. Our work drove efficiency by allowing firms to standardize and automate practices across the legal lifecycle.
DOCUment management
We improved document viewing, sharing and access by centralizing documents and matters into one platform, saving lawyers time searching for information on a case.
Timekeeping
We launched a new product to automate time capture on standard tasks throughout the lifecycle of a case, allowing legal teams to improve capture rates and minimize lost income.
Billing & Accounting
We developed billing and accounting capabilities to support business performance and created real-time dashboards that measure case profitability against goals.
email & calendar support
We developed Microsoft Outlook Add Ins, offering our customers integrated workspaces to save dates, documents, communications and events to a central case timeline.
Enterprise Legal Management
We refurbished and relaunched a platform for legal operational professionals who run corporate legal and claims litigation teams. We leveraged Salesforce technology to create a highly flexible, data-driven solution for matter and document management, as well as eBilling and dashboard capabilities.
The Impact
Our new ability to plan on-time delivery of quarterly product commitments, coupled with customer feedback loops, facilitated a turn from negative EBITA to a positive cash flow and provided a significant lift in our customer satisfaction scores and net retention rate.
Bessemer Venture Partners acquired a majority stake in Litify as the company achieved profitability in early 2023.
